Strain Profile:
I recently finished up a grow of a Black Widow plant from Mr Nice Seeds - Shantibaba. Seedlings (flouros) for 2 weeks, vegged (500watts MH) for 10 weeks and flowered (860watts HPS) for 70 days.
Since my experience is with a single pheno (growing more seeds in a couple months) of the strain it is likely variations exist - in fact Shantibaba indicated (after looking at my Widow) that it was the heavily indica pheno. This plant focused her growth on density of vegatation and bud sites - not height. She didn't stretch very much at all during flowering
I flowered in a 2-gallon pot using PBP Flower formula for about 7 wks, switched to Earth Juice-Bloom (no N) for a couple weeks and then flushed starting 5-days before harvest.
She reached a height of 22" and was flowered at 17". She showed pre-flowers at 42 days veg. I hung her to dry for 7 days, trimmed up and got 2.7oz (dried) from her and 3/4oz of trim leaf (dried).
Resin production was excellent, the trim leaf was encrusted with trichomes. The buds are really dense - in-fact hard as rocks.
SMELL: She has a pungent odor starting early in flowering, she smells like sour apples. It is a great odor - unique for sure. After drying her odor dissappears until breaking up the buds - then it comes back in waves!
TASTE: The taste is nice, but not like the smell more spicey. Tastes nice but as full or as sweet as the sweet-tooth(dah!).
HIGH: OK, this is where the BW shines - a more intense high than the sweet-tooth and definitely more body than mind. She produces a pretty quick buzz thats lasts a few hours - enjoyable.
Summary:
I liked growing the Black Widow and enjoy smoking her more. She was a good yielder (as compared to the Sweet-tooths in similar growing conditions) and has a nice taste and high.
