Big Sur Holy Weed. Page 2
Mendocino Man
Growing Profile: Big Time Breeder
Grow Setup: compact fluorescents indoor, sunlight outdoor
Grow Medium: soil
Yield: above average indoor, amazing outdoor
Overall Potency: very high
Feeding: 20-20-20 until flowering, then 10-52-10
Strain Profile: All round performer Those in California who are in the know, able to get seeds, and have outdoor space are all growing BSHW. Other than a slight tendency to sunburn when small, and some succeptability to powdery mildew, it's about perfect -- very strong, balanced high (for a fairly pure Indica), enormous yield, robust and extremely fast-growing plant, unmeddled with by the seed companies.
Most varieties of it are not 100% uniform, some individuals are healthier than others, and phenotype varies a bit (no apparent sativa to a fair amount as flowering approaches), but it crosses wonderfully. A friend of mine (formerly known as NCGA) may have found the perfect mix -- BSHW x (G13 x Blue Widow). It gets about 8' tall, 5-6' across, and yields a few pounds per plant of wonderful smoke. Perfect for medical growers who have lots of space but may be limited to a small number of plants.
Not recommended for indoor, both due to powdery mildew issues and because it's so huge, sometimes stretching (towards flowering) by a foot in 2 weeks regardless of lighting. They will just overwhelm your grow space. Strangely, the more sativa-heavy phenotype tends to be more manageable in terms of size, and might be tolerable indoors if topped sufficiently early and given lots of blue light. But next year I'm leaving the BSHW to outdoors, and sticking to Apollo x (G13 x Blue Widow) indoors.
