Greetings ...O.K. first let me answer...The Fan...Here is the genetic heritage of the NYCD....I have been growing for 32 years. In the last 13 I have focused mainly on breeding. I have over 100 seed strains and 30 different mothers as of this moment. In 1997 I was given 6 seeds from a good friend. He said that it was his favorite weed he had smoked in a long time, and he had gotten the herb in New York City. He said they called it Diesel.

I quickly sprouted the seeds, 5 came up, all were females. I started mothers from each of the five. I took clones off each mother and as soon as they were rooted enough, I put them into my flowering room. As i grew them to maturity I noticed 3 diiferent phenotypes coming from the five seeds. All with different smells, tastes and highs. All quite enjoyable. But this one stood out because of the smell when I touched her fresh glistening buds on the live still growing plant. It was Red Grapefruits. When I smoked it I didn't get nearly as high as Lavender or Somango or Amnesia Haze, or quite a few of my other strains. But the taste and smell were aromatherapy.

I didn't get any males. I wanted seeds and I wanted something with that taste and smell, but it had to be stronger than what I started with. So I pulled out my trusty Afghani-Hawaiin male that had served me so well and still does and let the pollen fly. I came out with very few seeds ..a couple hundred.

I sprouted about 50, picked out males and made mothers out of them, and did the same with females that had different body languages. All in all I came out with 4 phenotypes. Then I grew those phenotypes out and preceded to test them out with some of my real smoking friends. One had a real grapefruit taste, but a little less than the mother I started with. It was stronger than the original plant which was what I was after. The next also had a Grapefruit taste but with a hint of Afghani and a tighter harder bud. Still next I got an Afghani-Hawaiin phenotype with a mellow grapefruit taste and a much bigger yield. And last but not least I got a very sativa like pheno that took 10 days longer to finish, had thinner leaves, and was for me the strongest high but had lost alot of the grapefruit taste.

I took the most Grape fruity smelling one and crossed it to one of the males getting again very few seeds (200). I sprouted them picked through phenoypes and found they were much more alike. By now it was 2000 and I was still working on getting what I wanted. I was growing very small amounts and all my friends were freaking out when they tasted it. They said I have to enter it in the next Cannabis Cup. I worked harder on making that a reality but I didn't grow many seeds yet as I was still getting to know the different males...this takes time and Love and a great deal of care and risk. The cup came and as this was one of the newest strains of the Century I took one of my males and made my first batch of seeds for sale to the public. Yet without a seed package yet and not knowing how the public at large would recieve it I only made a few hundred seeds and entered the cup.

Quickly I made a seed package and packed up 10 packs. I had no other seeds of the NYCD at the time so they in there own way were quite valuable to me and they sold for alot 150 guldens in 2001. A guy named fet got some, Bubba Dutch got some, Rezdog got some and seven other people got some. All the people were pleased except for fet, he was quite displeased and started a smear campaign on me, blaming me for all the bad grows hes had or whatever.

All the while l I was still working on Getting that perfect blend of male and female NYCD and in November I was close but still entered the one I had isolated and had been working with in the Cannabis cup and won third prize. Once I knew I had the exact mix I was looking for I grew the seeds in a much larger quantity and released the present NYCD seeds and won 2 silver medals in the 2002 High Times Cannabis cup That is the story and if any of you out there don't have complete satisfaction with these seeds I want to know why, because from where I sit they are looking pretty pretty good. Keep it GREEN and friendly Soma
