Plant at 5.5 Weeks Flowering
This is a report of the free skunk #1 seeds given away with every order made at seeds direct.
The germination rate on these seeds was said to be very low. Overall, I wasn't expecting wonders from this strain.
I germinated 10 seeds. I had no intention of keeping them all, I already had lots of plants and I really just wanted the one female to test out.
To my suprise, 9/10 germination. No worrys their at all, 3 seedlings were retards, showed no vigour and had deformed leaf structure, they were binned. I gave 4 plants away, and kept 2 for myself, vegging for about 7 weeks using mostly natural sunlight.
Female ratio was low, their were 2 females out of the 6 plants. One of which was in the 2 i kept. A friend grew out the other.
I Have other friends growing this strain to. The following report is based on a combination of my own experiences growing this plant, and others I have observed.
The strain has 2 main phenotypes. A short, stocky compact pheno, very indica dominant, looking similar to northern lights, finishing in 7-8 weeks, lots of resin production, and a stretchy sativa type pheno, finishing in 8-10 weeks. Little resin production. I grew the sativa pheno.
I have not had a chance to sample the indica dominant pheno yet, all i can say is it remains a small compact plant that yields well, heavy side branching giving a mini christmas tree look.
The sativa pheno is very strectchy. I topped at the 3rd, 5th and 9th nodes, my plant reached 5.5 foot in height, my friends (same pheno) reached nearly 9 foot. I strongly advice lots of topping for indoor growth!
Plants have a lime green look to the female hairs. The plants also have lime coloring to the leaves and suffer from a constant yellowing of the lower fan leaves, WHICH IS NOT DEFECIANCY! No matter how you try to correct this problem you can't. It seems to be a natural occurence and does not effect the normal growth . It should not cause concern unless the yellowing begins on new growth.
The plant is a pretty high yielder. Buds tend to run and remain fluffy. Yield was about average for a plant of its size.
Finished product is average. Its not great, its not crap. Its good daytime weed, energetic and chatty, but lacks the knock out effect for late night smoking. Overall, a pretty average high.
The taste and aroma go hand in hand, hence, it tastes just like it smells, bland, slightly musky with a slight spicey tatse. Not the best weed I have grown, but no way the worst, and for free, who cares..
Harvest Report:
53 Days - Little Early, Head High
55 Days - Relaxing, Light Buzz
59 Days - About right, Nice, relaxing body high
It could possibly have gone a little longer, I have clones and will flower for longer and report at a later date.
Overall feeling of the strain.. Very Average. Hardy strain, a few moments of possible high stress, eg something dropped on plant (oops), timer broke.. etc etc, no signs of hermaphrodites and once the yellowing was properly diagnosed no signs of over/under ferting. A truely hardy strain suited well to beginners!
