Gypsy's C99 F2 - grow & smoke report

These seeds were F2 knockoffs from Seedsdirect. They cost about 35 if I remember rightly which is a bargain compared to the original BG seeds.

Ouy of the 10 seeds I got 4 females. The strain is very stable. I was told to expect more varation in the F2s but got hardly any. The plant grew with widish leaves - more like a indy heavy hybrid. They were extremely vigorous and quickly outgrew everything else in my growroom.

They are very bush and topping them made them even more so. When I turned to 12/12 I supercropped them - i.e. pruned off extraneous lower branches to leave 4-6 main branches for budding.

The buds were profuse. They grew very quickly and had a very high calyx:leaf ratio. They are lightish green, covereed in hair and have very nice crystals all over them. crystals resemble a good indica - very nice indeed. 2 of the plants had larger more leafy buds. I assume that is a phenotype. The smell was about the only other varying thing between the plants. It went from pure tropical fruit to piney cleaner. All pretty strong. They stunk out the grow room for the last 2 weeks.

I harvested mine pretty early. They didn't all go into 12/12 together but the earliest was 45 days the latest more like 55. They didn't put on much weight in those 10 days so it is a matter of choice re: the type of buzz. However, I didn't notice much difference in the buzz anyway.

Onto the smoke: the buds were flash dried in a microwave. I was still impressed with the smoothness and taste - hardly any greeness. They just looked and smoked like intense Amsterdam buddage.

The effect is very strong. Stronger than my Western Winds and Somango both of which are pretty decent. It reminds me of the first "skunk" we got in the UK which really knocked me about. It is advertised as a sativa high in an indica style plant but it's more complex than that. The indica expresses itself a fair bit. The high is hard to describe. It comes on fast and is pretty up and a bit speedy/jittery but there is a real headfuck confusion in it too. The first few times it put me on edge with paranoia/anxiety type of feelings about stuff in my life. I think this is because it has the bite of the sativa but clouds your mind a bit more leading to circular thinking. For me it isn't weed to be taken lightly - it is an intense ride. I did all manner of stupid things like forgetting my car in the supermarket carpark and walking home accidently. I've not done that for a while! Compared to my Western Winds it is decidedly heavy and doesn't have the clear high. It's interesting how many ways sativa and indica can interact to produce these different highs.

Overall it is a really impressive plant - very easy to grow, bid buds, beautiful looking, great taste and mindblowing high. But I'm still not sure I actually like smoking it. In contrast, I've just had a bowl of Somango while writing this and it actually makes me feel GOOD. I'm not sure I can say the same of C99 just yet. It reminds me of smoking those crazy hydro hybrids you get in Amsterdam - fluffy, stinky, crystall and damned strong but maybe smoked more for the experience for pleasure. Maybe it will mellow out a bit.
